Treasure
chest
Glazed
stoneware, h 30cm
Treasure chests appear in pirate stories
and older tales where they symbolise a dream
of enourmous wealth and good luck not unlike
winning the lottery.
The contents of this chest are rich with
sculptural wealth - boxes, balls, tubs,
tubes, barrels, as well as coins, a spanner,
a gun, a bottle, a house and a slice of
toast. This collection hints at a different
view of wealth, something more mixed and
double edged perhaps or even something more
mundane and easy to miss. The magical and
transforming properties of silver and gold
have here been replaced with building blocks
with a different potential.
