Karparc
Earthenware, each element
h2 w2.5 L6cm
This work is made up of hundreds of small
(length 5 to 6 cms) ceramic cars richly
textured, coloured with slips and glazed
with a wide range of glazes. The piece will
continue to grow as I keep making new elements.
The work involves a kind of sweated craft
labour to create, there is a temptation
to find a way of mechanising the process
to speed it up (and to reduce the price).
The cars are not models, there is no attempt
(on my part) to represent real vehicles,
they only bear a passing resemblance to
an automobile but that seems sufficient.
Collectively the work is very colourful
and rich in textures, the pieces are sensually
attractive as a group, like sweets in a
sweetshop.
