Monochrome Photographs
My photographs fall somewhere between a
visual notebook and a branch of my sculptural
work. On my art school foundation course
we were taught photography on the basis
that it was the new drawing, a new medium
for a new technological age. That idea had
a certain appeal at the time, it made me
feel like I was part of what's new, sweeping
away old fashioned ways. Now I value drawing
and I also value photography and recognise
that one could not possibly be the equivalent
of the other.
I love taking and making pictures, composing
things in the camera is very engaging and
I cherish it as one of my favourite visual
tools just like I value my drawing skills.
